hawaii
hey i just started my first aquarium ( a 25 and a 20 gallon tank) and iwas wondering- whats a good stream to get fish from ? I got a albino cichlid and some a couple plecos from manoa but havent found much else there ( i go by mcdonalds). I also have a 2000+ gallon koi pond and a 500+ gallon pond with a couple of trash talipia my frind gave me - ill upload pics when i get home = ) tahnks

There are no Cichlids native to Hawaii... so any you find there are "pet' fish that have been released of the descendants of "pet" fish that have been released...

There may be local laws limiting how or how many fish can be caught and kept as pets... I'm not sure how big of a deal this is but it's a question worth asking...

my friends a member of the local aquarium club n he said that its all good takin fish from the streams cause there invasive species or somthing

There club has these monthly events where they go in the stream and pwn all the fish thats not supposed to be there.

Sounds like your all set then! I would ask your friend or members of his club for advice on where to fish for them or where to increase your odds for a certain species.

Aloha,

I have a couple of O'opu Naniha and had a O'opu Nakea till it died. I got all as bye catch trying to catch feral mollies in Waimanalo stream, they are hardy and do very well. The Nakea and Naniha will not reproduce in a tank or pond. So lately I have been catching them young and growing them out and re-introducing then back into the stream. Being Hawaiian it makes me feel good to Malama a native species, you might want to consider that as well since you have the resources.
