Help Bad Ammonia Burn!!!

Hey everyone. Well, my idiot friend has been over-feeding his 2 oscars, and his silver aro. I noticed their eyes clouding up and their skin kind of flaking off. I tested his water today for ammonia and it was thru the roof blue color. I helped him vacuum his gravel and did a 50% water change. I also put some ammo-chips in his 2 filters and also put some of the ammo-chips in some panty hose and placed it in the bottom of the tank. I used Kordon ammonia remover and water conditioner in the new water and also put some in the rest of the water in the tank. I also added a stress reducer that is supposed to help replace the slime. I tested the water again and it was much better. Yellow and the second panel on the color list. I plan to help him do water changes (25%) every day and add the same ammonia remover and stress reducer. Here are some pictures of the silver aro and the 2 oscars. The aro is also swimming with his tail down. I hope it's not too late for them. Please let me know if what I'm doing will help and also what else I can do. Thanks, Ed.

Add a little Epsom salt, that will help in healing and slime production. Can't really say what amount to put, I just poor some in, I think the amount is supposed to be 1 tsp per 5 gallons. Hopefully you can save them, those are gonna be some good lookin oscars.

I've tried using salt before and raising the temp. up some but it has never worked for me. Do you think the fish has a chance if I continue to do what I'm doing? Is there any medication I can use also?

I wouldn't use any medication at all. At least not until they start to improve. Not sure what you've tried salt and raised temps for (probably ich) but if it didn't work, you must have done something wrong.

Wow those guys look bad. Big water changes is all you need, you can add salt to the water but its not necessary. I only use chemicals as an absolute last resort. The only things that go in my tank are clean water and Prime. I had a shipment of wild angel fish arrive w/ bad ammo burn - fins were mostly gone and I managed to save them(I was suprised actually). Fish are tougher than we think, but those guys are looking rough. You might manage to save them, but if your friend doesn't up his fish keeping game they're all goners.
 
One other thing to keep in mind, as you get the water chem issues sorted out & the fins begin to regrow, watch out for bacterial infections. Good Luck!
