Help Bad Ammonia Burn!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would do 25% water changes a day for the next ten days you could also dose with aquarium salt at 1 tblspoon per 10 gallons of water to facilatate healing & slime production. Stop feeding for about three days and make sure the tank is fully cycled. Going foward your friend is going to need to step up his maintance schedule if he values his fish he is sholud back off on the feeding he is doing them no favor.

Update: Well, I knew, the silver aro didn't survive. Came home and head down tail up. One of the oscars still have a skin problem bet is still eating and active. I think he will make it. The other oscar seemed okay when I went to work but after coming home, it was hardly moving and sometimes would be upside down. He, at times will swim with the other oscar but now it's hiding in one of the driftwoods and sometimes it's upside down on the floor. I'm pretty sure when I wake up tomorrow, it will not have made it. I forgot to mention that he also has a jardini about 5 inches long. It seems in great health and is eating gut-fed mealworms. I want him to eat pellets or sticks but I dont want to stress him so I will continue to feed it young gut-fed meal worms. I have since moved him to my 55 gallon quarantine tank. I have been changing the water about 25 % each day. I have since moved the jardini to my 55 gallon quarantine tank and he's doing great and eating. Do Jardinis have a better immune system than silver aros?
Thanks, Ed.

Update #2.

Well, 1 oscar has died and the other one looks better but is kind of life-less. Lying down and then swimming a little bit. I don't think it's going to make it. I took his Jardini and he's in my quarantine tank. He seems to still be okay and eating. I'm not sure if I should put the oscar in the quarantine because I'm not sure if it has an infection or something else that will kill the Jardini. I'm going to help him re-cycle his tank and then add in the Jardini again. I found out than he was over-feeding and most importantly, he only waited for 3 days before he added the fish. He said he added some bacteria from a bottle and it said that it was safe to add fish after adding the beneficial bacterial. I don't believe in the bacterial bottles that says that you can add fish immediately. If he knew better, he should have let the cycle complete before adding new fish. I'm going to help him cycle the tank properly. Well, you live and learn. Thanks, Ed.

They may have developed a seconday fungal infection. Somthing like API Fungus cure or a similar product might help. This would be my best guess at this point.
