I'm sorry I had to ask as I myself sometimes miss things so I wanted to be thorough in asking you about what steps you took. It sounds like you've been on point and have done almost everything I could think of and would have. The things I would've done different is the cycled water from main tank but that's just because I never thought of that. Usually my hospital is cycled so I just do water changes as normal but using another tanks water with good parameters should be good if not better then my way. And the fast I would've only waited a couple of days to one week.i've had him for 3 months before he developed this problem.
Im using cycled water from my main tank, all parameters are within range
He started having white poop since October. i stopped feeding him for 2-3 weeks and tried feeding again. when he refused to eat, i fasted him for another 2-3 weeks and tried again. now its been more than 2 months.
I have only been feeding him pallets but he caught the infection from another fish in the tank which was successfully cured with metronidazole.
I have never tried garlic guard, i will order it if u suggest it.
Currently, i only have a hang-on filter for the quarantine tank, no carbon, just a sponge.
The epsom salt bath, i did with and without Metronidazole tablets, on and off in the past 2 months.
Thank you for your response.
Im gna get garlic guard and try injecting the meds directly into his mouth
Hope all goes well.
If you're going to inject/force feed then you don't need the Garlic Guard unless you want to try it in the future. The Garlic Guard is primarily used to entice a stubborn fish as fish show an attraction and enhanced feeding response to garlic flavored food. Force feeding has the benefit of helping a fish get back any strength they lost due to malnutrition during their self imposed starvation. I stay away because as I said it personally makes me nervous and I know it's stressful to the fish but after not eating for so long it is probably the best course of action for you as it will help prevent the fish from weakening further, so I completely support your decision.
I really hope he turns around and get better for you as you've expended so much effort in his behalf. Good luck and I hope to see a happy update in the near future.
