How big is the tank?
If you have a spare 75+ gallon you can grow out the hybrid, but it likely won’t do well with others.

What how big does the fish need to grow untill I can determine male or female? Would a 55 gallon be acceptable for a female trimac/flowerhorn/hybrid?

I would bet no on that tank size. I have a 55 and I think it would be too small for that size of a fish. As a growout tank, yes, it would be perfectly fine, but as a long-term home, probably not.

I agree with the above - you’re looking at a fish that can get at least 10 inches long, so the 18 inch width is necessary to comfortably live.

I really like the fish and I'm inclined to keep it. I'll probably end up getting another 75 gallon to keep on it's own. Half off sale at petco atm.
A 180 gallon is the dream. I'll keep updating with pictures

Thanks for the great feedback!
