iv bought some baby chiclids today.. babies to be exact. really little ones.. do u guys have any suggestions on how i keep them? are they hard to feed? can i make these babies grow? any tips? thanks in advance :)

It'll be hard without knowing what species they are, but I would say a 2g will not suffice when they grow, so I would advise getting them a larger tank so they can grow quicker and can settle some territory, as it is not possible in a 2gal, so I would get them a 6-10g . Do you have any pictures of the cichlid fry?

iv got no pictures yet.. one is color orange the other one is blueish, one is pure white and the other one looks like a baby flowerhorn but its not. oh yea and the yellow one died today! ****! its fins and body were all battered i guess the 4 other ones beat the hell out of the yellow guy.

i just put them on the 2gal tank co theyre really little.. they cant even swallow a little pellet (granule) which i feed to my baby carps. i will put them in a bigger tank soon if they grow bigger sometime soon.

is it hard to make these guys grow?

my opion is that you should find out the name of them first or give us some pics of the babys so we can ID them and help you. But for now if you can give them brine shrimp live would be good but frozen is ok but live they can swallow them easyer than frozne

KEEP US POSTED

the yellow one died guys.. it got beaten up by the others.. im searching for their names now.. il inform u guys.

by the way im feeding them floating pellets (granules) would those stuff be ok? i cant find shrimp in my place. and i think theyre too little to eat those shrimps yet. they have a really hard time eating those pellets they cant swallow it whole. haha cute colorful guys though. =)

iv got the names here they are:

1 ice blue
1 venustus
1 blue dolphin
1 tangerine
and the dead guy... 1 yellow prince

learn a lesson here, you should never buy fish without first doing a little research its alrady cost you one fish that you paid for. for all you knew these could have been fish that need a 10ft tank....

to answer your question as no one else seems to have an answer for you.
A) a larger volume of water will give the fish more room to move and keep the stress levels low, healthy fish grow better. also the larger the water body the lower the nitrates will be. very high nitrates will stunt the fish

B) 10-15% waterchanges every other day will grow the fish on at about double the rate, be careful here too many water changes will send your tank in to a mini cycle which will in turn stress the fry (ref A) after about 3-4 months of age 30% weekly water changes will keep your fish illness free, healthy and carry on with continued growth.

C) (this is the controversial method of power feeding) lots of guys on here will tell you feed small amounts but often during the day. say 4 times a day. in my opinion all this does is achieve a fat unhealthy fish that will pollute its water sooner therefore needing more water changes. personally i would advise feeding twice a day all the fish can eat within 30 seconds. any more than that and you'll notice food left at the bottom of the tank uneaten rotting and again polluting the water and indirectly stunting your fish

D) at this age you should be feeding flake. if they are very small crush it up and put in the tank, african cichlids will suffer from a condition called bloat if you feed them meats. its the high protein that effects the fishes digestive tract causeing what i would imagine is a slow and ainful death. although this type of fish will eat insects and other fry in the wild its best advised to keep meat to a very minimum if at all. krill would be the best option, and blood worm being one of the worst.

hope these tips help

but how would i know if the fry's are stressed? i only got these guys for a 100 pesos. so it dosnt hurt my pocket. i just want to keep them and make these little guys grow and breed :)

well if they are stressed then they will become ill. perhaps with white spot etc etc. if you do all that ive suggested then they wont be stressed. the fish may have only cost 100 pesos but these are living animals and you do have a certain responsibility to look after them as you would if you'd bought a dog etc
