using for 400gl+ fresh water , what is the best pump for that size of tank? i been looking at reeflo hammerhead hybrid pump on amazon

I use a Jebao DCP-20000 pump for my 180g tank and run it at about 60%. The DCP pumps can be run external to the sump and I have run smaller Jebao pumps in this configuration. I REALLY like the Jebao DCP pumps.

The external pumps I own (Little Giants) are much higher pressure pumps than the Jebao and most aquarium sump pumps I am familiar with. They also suck down a LOT more electricity than the internal pumps I have used. We use an old Little Giant pump to drain my daughters axolotl tank when doing water changes and it drains the 55g in a couple of minutes compared to a half hour for just siphoning.

You might want to ask this question on some of the saltwater specific sites, I believe external pumps are more common in saltwater setups.

I love my Reeflo Hammerhead pump. Shortly after we set our 300 gallon tank up, I purchased a second one to have a spare replacement pump. It is still in its box. Mine is a giant work horse of a pump and still going strong 16 years later. Like the pump so much, that it is Reeflo pumps only in our house. Unfortunately, the big tank, after many years, is still not set up, but I have two Reeflo Hammerhead pumps, two Baracuda gold pumps and one tarpon pump waiting to be set up. Yup, our fish tank upgrade has been in the works so many years, that I have the original Hammerhead and Barracuda pumps before Reeflo started making hybrid pumps. From our experience with our original Reeflo Hammerhead pump, I wouldn't consider any other brand of pumps...powerful, quiet, low wattage pumps.....what more could you ask for....

Meanwhile, today I have to make a trip to town and buy a spare pond pump for our wet/dry filter. The pump is really noisy and probably going to quit on us. This will be the fourth or fifth pump replacement :( (We use the Hammerhead pump for our extreme mechanical filtration and have biological filtration via a wet/dry filter)

i bought a new hammerhead today from amazon, got damaged from delivering so im waiting for the replacement but i didn’t expect the pump to be that big, its huge and im worrying about the noise

It's one of the quietest pumps around.

Get some vibration silencers
