Hello every body,my name is Linda and i am new to the forum.I can see you all know what you are talking about and was hopeing for some much needed help.I have had whitespot on my stingrays now for over 6months,ive tried everything to get rid of it but its still there.I have been adding salt now for 6months and had my water at 87 degrees as this is what my local fish shop told me to do.They all still eat very well everday even with the problem.i just carn't bear it much longer,i do weekly water changes and the water is fine.I know some people who have told me they have used medication for stingrays with no problems,i have been suggested one called paragaurd and esha exit, can any body please tell me if they have used these on stingrays without any problems as i feel this is the only way i can get rid of it.oh forgot to mention the tank does have uv sterilisers on it aswell but this is not helping.

need a picture please.... ive used paraguard and always use a UV sterilizer.... please some pix so we can help you better...

Hi Nic thankyou for takeing the time to help me my camera is broken at the moment so carnt do any pictures im afraid,im sure its definately whitespot though even though id heard rays carnt get it.when you used paragaurd did any of your rays die?

Hi mamarays, 6months is been a long time, maybe you can try using prazi pro as optional ermm but maybe Nic also can give you any other option too ;)

Hi torres, yes 6 months has been along time.i am finding it very stressfull as i love my stingrays very much.thanks for your imput

nope.. never had anyproblems with rays and paraguard... how much salt have you been adding? you could to increase the temp to 32-34C and add 3 pounds of salt per 100gallons and try that for a week... can you borrow a camera i would like to see pictures before you dose with meds even though i consider that med to be very ray safe.. seems odd that they have been there for 6 months to me..

How big is this spot?

They are tiny little spots all over, they are smothered in them, but not on there eyes,i will buy a new camera at the weekend nic,i realy think medication is going to be my only option.i have been putting 4 kilo's of salt in and the tank is aprox 310 gallons with sump..so sounds about what you are saying.

Hi, white spot is a very unforgiving Parasitic (protozoa ) disease, within a matter of a couple of weeks or so the infection would normally over power most fish by damaging the gills etc though stingrays do have a certain amount of resistance to the disease. I can only think your UV isnt powerful enough to kill these protozoa in their free swimming stage,an adequate sized UV sterilizer and a significant rise in temp should be all thats needed,i think your UV is holding it back but not getting rid of it so leaving a background population to carry on the cycle.
Anyone agree or got any other ideas?
Ps
Be very sure what your doing when using chemicals on stingrays,i think the salts a good idea thats already been mentioned, youve put up with this problem a long time and like youve said the fish are still feeding which means you dont have to do anything in a hurry.....the very best of luck.

increase your temp and up the salt.... pictures are needed
