help please!!!!white spot stingray problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it has been around for 6 months and your rays are still living and eating then surely it is not parasitic. Is the tank bare bottom? If your rays developed denticles or rough skin like some rays do it could be possible what you are seeing is small particles in the water sticking to these rough spots causing them to look white.

I tried to take as close of pics as I could with my male aparicio. These guys have really rough skin and when they poo, if you don't clean it out fast they swim through it and it sticks to them. Does it look like this?

Hi fish dog and aquaman, thanks for your input, yes tank is bare bottom, and no the spots dont look like that there definately in the skin,i had a pangasius catfish years ago which are scaleless like the rays and that got whitespot when it first came and this looks just the same on the rays skin as it did on thaT

Ive seen white spot on rays before and the eyes usually show signs of excess mucus and the odd spot, this is puzzling, pictures are the way forward. If you could do a gentle scrape along the rays body using a slide this should gather enough mucus to check it out under a microscope, whitespot(Ick) can clearly be seen as a grey blob which moves slowly. This obviously carries a risk so get someone to do it thats experienced, wear thick leather gloves and long sleeves to protect yourself from the rays barb. This procedure is often done on Koi carp for parasite diagnosis

i had this a few times... the only thing i came up w was, poor water quality. even though i was doing routine waterchanges, it wasnt enough...

how big r the rays? a waterchange once a week isnt enough...

did it look like this?

you cant really say that... on moderate bio loads ive done only one change a week and was fine... at one point i had to do 3 or 4 50% a week... not knowing the tank or its params you cant say a water change once a week isnt enough... my friend pond is so well established he was only doing a water changed every month maybe 2.... it was topped off as needed but that was it..
