Help with Flathead catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you very much, at what age will my flathead reach adulthood? And what is prepared food? i've been feeding him flakes and the occasinal live fish.

By now he should have been around 2-3 feet. Since he is stunted its anyones guess. For prepared food, cut out the live. Your risking introducing parasites to the tank. You could feed sinking carnivore pellets, massivore delite, almost any kind of catfish pellet, night crawlers, prawns and krill, fish fillets, and algae wafers. Also for your bass, you can occasionally feed him crickets. I've seen bass enjoy plucking them from the water's surface. :D

Which brings up another point, assuming you got a common pleco, they can grow over 12" and produce a lot of waste. So just keep up with the water changes.

x2, I've got a 14" Common, and it makes a mess. Got him at 2", and they can be cute at that point, but as four years goes by, they lose their 'cuteness', lol.

he's defintely stunted. you've been feeding flakes to a carnivore with a voracious appetite. try frozen silversides for starters.
