I have a 240 gallon and I have three decorations that my marble goby, bristle nose pleco, and about 5 clown loaches hide in damn near all the time.. I'm tempered to remove all hollow decoration and just have plants and driftwood.. I'm sure my fish are more comfortable hiding but I'd like to see them more often..The loaches were a new addition to the tank and my Arowana had no interest in eating them. The new loaches are about 3-4" easy pickings. Maybe because I have one big loach about 6" that has been his tank mate for his whole life. What would you do? Comments? Stock list large silver aro, big JD, a few bichir, and a few more SA cichlids.

Probably afraid of the aro that is 10 or 20 times their size.

How long have they been in there

Dither fish could be added. Seeing something other than a large predator swimming around could make the others more confident to come out. I would think the cichlids would suffice though.

I would suggest doing the opposite, more decorations/rocks/driftwood could entice them to come out. The more available hiding spots, the easier it is for them to get to a safe hide. This can make them feel more secure and safe. If they think they can get away quick and easy when they need to, they will be more brave about coming out to say hello

Hey Chris,

I agree... I would actually add more decor in the form of driftwood. I personally am not to fond of the fake looking pieces your currently using. I'd find a few good sized pieces of driftwood and incorporate them into your tank. The White River is hella low right now exposing TONS of driftwood. No need to spend a fortune buying pieces! I think a background (black or dark blue) would also add a lot to your setup and could potentially make the fish feel more secure as well.

Yeah I bought the fake decor way back when I started keeping fish.. I may remove them or plug the holes. Some people think with more hiding spots the loaches may appear more.

The right side has more decor plants. The left is somewhat bare.. All my fish tend to stay on the right side... I just recently changed my tank to this set up to try something new
