Hey guys, I saw this stuff when I was working at petsmart today, didn't even realize we had it. It makes some pretty bold claims..

- Vivid Color & natural beauty in low UV settings

- Reduces stress & Increases disease resistence

- Rapid Growth & Reduced Waste

The last one is what I have the most interest in, does anybody know if this product really lives up to it's claim and makes a difference in any of these categories over regular cichlid gold?

it's a good food go to Hikari's website to read about it.

I've read about it I just wanted to know if anybody has had personal success or seen any of the results they claim, cuz of course they're gonna blow it up to be a great product whether it is or not

i dont know about the growth and waste but ive seen some drastic color changes in some of my fish with regular ciclid gold

Same here, my GT's colors have definitely gotten better even just over the last couple days since i started feeding her cichlid gold over freeze dried bloodworms with a few pellets mixed in, trying to decide whether to get bio-gold or regular gold whenever I run out (which won't be for a while)

If bio-gold really reduces waste I will be ALL over that hah

Hikari is a pretty good product. Bio-Gold is definatly a better product than the original cichlid gold.
The difference is something Hikari calls "Hikari-Germ". What it is, is a bacillus bacteria which aids the digestive enzymes inside your fish to utilize more of the nutrition, which is better for the fish as well as the tank water. So technically they arent lying.

But remember guys, Cichlid gold is meant for carnivorous fish, and as mentioned above, Hikari gold and bloodworms is NOT a healthy diet for a Green Terror, Way too much proteins and lipids which accumulate around the organs of the fish which over time will degenerate the organs causing unhealthy poor looking fish.
It would be wise to mix in some fresh veg, or another great product made by Hikari is Excel. Its made for herbivorous fish like Africans, But will provide plant matter essential for healthy omnivorous, which most cichlids are. Personally, I reccomend Omega One Veggie rounds/ or flakes. They are made from kelp and salmon and all my fish love them. Also any NLS product, But be careful with those high protein foods, Not all fish can handle that much protein, But they sure do love to eat it.

Yeah I have Hikari Algae discs that my GT shares with my pleco for vegetable matter, also i believe the bio-gold says it has some spirinula mixed in so perhaps that would help for a more balanced diet than just cichlid gold and algae discs

Well my Odoe goes after the pellets really well and Massivore is the BEST, I would take Fishings advice and get Excel for the GT I'm sure your pleco might go after them too

PS get the Bichirs off of gravel ASAP

I've got the sand to switch the tank over just haven't quite got around to it yet, I didn't realize the possibility of them eating the gravel when I got them, in fact I had never used sand in any tank i'd ever own - now i love it though because of how easy it is to keep clean - that picture is also from about a month and a half ago, they're probably double that size now :P
