That sounds like a perfect plan to me Heck if you're gonna use the established media and want to get it going early you could even try this stuff called Start Zyme. I used a whole bottle on my new 240g yesterday along with a fully cycled Jebo 865uv canister, ac110 and 2 other HOBs and it tested all zeros a few hours after filling it up. I haven't tried live plants tho because my fish would just tear them up (although I'd really like to) so its probably a good idea to get those going first

I've got about half a bottle of Special Blend left from where I cycled my big tank, going to use it too... Hope to get the filter, canopy, light, heater, and substrate this weekend (going to use potting soil under sand) so I can at least have it set up for my son, since his birthday is this weekend...
It might also become a temporary hospital/growout tank, got a firemouth getting beat up, though he looked better today... And a couple other small cichlids that spend most of their time hiding right now, might throw them in until they get a little more size...
