heres the situation: im going down to florida this Wednesday, and of course i have to do some fishing when im down there. who wants to miss the opportunity to catch pbass and snakehead?! problem is the rod tube i wanted to order from cabelas is on back order... plus it cost 50 bucks total with shipping. so i came up with the ingenious idea of a homemade pvc rod tube. 2 problems though, im not sure how airline security will take it and my favorite rod that im trying to take down there is a 6' one peice All Star. so thats a 6' rod tube im looking to make. any one ever take something that big through airline security???

Sorry, not too sure about your question, but youre going to have to go pretty far south for peacocks and snakeheads now after the cold spell last yr and with it being so cold this year even, Id say like homestead area (South Miami).

realy? that sucks im gona be up by orlando :irked: my question was whether or not id be able to put a 6 foot rod tube wit my luggage on the plane

If the end of the rod tube can be opened. And you label the tube Fishing Pole, Fragile. They'll check it at baggage and let it on. I'd drill a few holes in it and install some eyelets or something that will allow you to Connect it to your Bag. Also, Be sure to Tag the tube as well as the luggage.

Buddy of mine used a piece of 5" PVC to make a tube for 3 of his poles. He had that strapped to his Bow Case, and then his reels in his luggage wrapped up in his clothes for a flight from NJ to California.

Also, I'd check with the airline your using to see if they have any specific instructions for Labeling such things.

PS:

He did something like this.

i saw that exact picture on google after i had the idea to diy a rod tube and researched them on google. i called the air line today and asked bout their rod policy, they just said they have to be in a tube, so im hopping i can take my 6 foot 1 peice rod in an equaly as big rod tube. as for all the proper stickers and identification, ill just do that at the air port and im prety sure ill be the only one wit a pvc rod tube so it wont be that hard to find it lol

never mind just did some research and the airline im flying with has a maximum of 62 inches for luggage
