Homemade puffer fish food

Is there any way you can make your own fish food that the puffer fish would eat? I know that they need some snails to eat to wear down their teeth and that they like frozen seafood such as shrimp, but I would think a constant diet of just meat would not give them all the nutrition they need.

If you want to give it some extra vitamins or somthing just take shrimp or some other food that you feed it and just stuff it with a high quality pellet food. That is what I do with my rays every so often. They are too greedy at feeding time to know the difference.

I feed my puffer Shrimp,krill,earthworms,and algea wafers. He loves algea wafers. Also,soak the food in a little bit of garlic extreme, it does wonders for their slime coat and all around health. the algea wafers are as close to non meat as I can find. Also, if you can stand the violence, small crayfish are perfect for their teeth. Check out his colors.

is there any homemade food that you can make though? I kind of like the idea of just breaking off a piece of homemade food and feeding it to them with all the stuff in there already.

My south american puffer loves to eat frozen peas, all i do is cut them in half and remove the shell. One small bag has lasts me 6 months and is still over half full. I only give them every now and then, not as a staple though.

I make my own food for my saltwater tank, which up until recently contained a puffer. I use a variety of fresh seafood, nori, garlic and a bunch of vitamin supplements. I use the blender -- My Wife usually takes about a week to talk to me again after I make a batch -- and blend it all up, put it in an ice-cube tray and freeze it. After it is frozen, I put the blocks into a ziplock baggy to keep the freezer-burn off it. I cut a cube in half and feed, pretty easy feeding once its made. Also ensures a proper diet on a regular basis. I do feed other foods to my fish, but this makes up the bulk of the food they get.
