grumpy mode ? this should be the chill out mode
She's actually remarkably calm unless I'm doing a water change. That's the only time she ever splashes and thrashes around. Other than that she's remarkably placid. No lunging at me through the tank, biting the algae scraper or anything.

She's a surprisingly well mannered aimara!

DB have you kept dollars with aimara? What were the respective sizes?

An update in the aimara would be great? Have you got it living with anything else

My bigger Aimara is in with a Vatf, a Brycon, a pair of Dorado, trio of Armatus, Lacerdae wolf, Iguaza wolf, rays, several Irwinni, a Clown Knife, and a few wood/sun/eclipse cats. This wolf has been with (fish AND rays) tankmates probably 3+ years now. Since it didn't kill everyone in the tank like so many hobbyists promised me it would I decided to try again...... My Smaller Aimara is in with rays, a larger wolf (unsure of species), a MBU puffer, irwinni cats, silver dollars, Vatf and Tatf. What do you know? No issues cohabbing this one either. The smaller Aimara did kill a pair of small Tatf when I first got it (they were barely larger then feeders) but aside from that I've had NO issues whatsoever, and like I said, pretty sure the first Aimara has been with me for probably 3-4 years...... My conclusion is either I'm terribly lucky and scored 2 puddy cats in a row, or there's something to acquiring them small and raising them in a community setting.

Mine is large and also in community so I agree the hype is more than the reality, I do house mine with large fish however and upon adding a 12" Datnoid, aimara is 24-26 inch he did have a nasty grab of it which led to death, he also would heavily beat up a 20"+ tigrinus but the Tig wouldn't move out the aimaras territory.
I think if you're careful with tank mates you can get away with it.
I was curious re the dollars though as they're not a large fish really so could easily be harmed even if they couldn't be eaten.
I may have to move a shoal of 13 wide bars at 8" with the aimara which I feel a little nervous about

We are definitely dealing with different circumstances. My "larger" Aimara is probably only 1.5' so he wouldn't really look at the silver dollars as a meal.

Funny you mention the catfish though. I have a striped Rapheal cat that is chased out of the Aimaras hide on a regular basis, the 2 sun/eclipse/wood cats know that without the armor they can't pull off the same mischevious feat so they tend to stay clear.
