How Big Can Goldfish Really Get?

I have four Goldfish at home who live in a 75 gallon tank two of them where feeder fish Goldfish that I had bought five years ago and now they are over eight inches long. In fact when they bottom feed their talls pop out of the water's surface. And I have two small three inch ones who are quickly going to grow up to be like the big ones.

So I wounder how big could these Goldfish get if I where to buy them a 300 gallon or built them a giant 3000 to 5000 gallon tank? I have seen carp at Bush Garden's in one of their lakes that where over four feet long would this mean that my goldfish could get to this giant sized if they where given a bigger and bigger fish tank.

Also I have heard that Goldfish can live for over 25 to 70 years how old could a Goldfish live to if it is put in a bigger and bigger tank as it gets bigger?

Well a lot depends on what kind of goldfish first off. Just because you put a goldfish into a larger body of water doesn't mean it's going to grow larger. There's many kinds of goldfish, some meant for ponds and other for aquariums.

it varies from diet to water conditions and whether ur fish is happy too.. the bigger the tank the more space it has to freely swim.. a gd thing.. but water parameters and also temp must be TIC so the fish will be in good condition.. also a variety of foods will keep it healthy..

18 inches is the maximum. 12-16" is pretty much average for both common (hibuna) and comets. Shubs are smaller than the two. A 300g will be fine for all five of your goldfish. Fancies are even smaller usually at 12" although the largest fancy ever recorded is an oranda from China at 14.6". The smallest are Siamese dolls at 4-5".

Both singletails and fancies are the same species. A proper term would be "variant". They were simply developed naturally or artificially in different ways hence they come out in several varieties.

Big! I had lunch in the park the other day, in the creek there were goldfish as long as my forearm. It was fun to watch though, the bright orange ones stood out but if you looked closer you could see the bronze coloured ones, they looked so stealthy for a goldfish.

I have a pond that when I get a cool looking feeder, something like a traditional koi, white with an orange dot on the head, I throw it in the pond. 10 years later and some are almost a foot long and 4 inches wide!
