I have a Needle nose gar I've gotten some mixed information about how big needle nose gars get. I have one in a hundred gallon tank. I herd they only get five inches but mine is 8. I think they get a foot but I'm not sure.
since you're discussing such a small size, I bet you have a xenentodon cancila, which supposedly get to 12"-14", my lfs used to carry these as needle nose gar... but they're also carried under asian gar, freshwater gar, etc. if you have a shortnose gar, which goes under the alias of needle nose gar as well, you may want to get a bigger tank =)
My lfs has him labeled as asian gar sometimes too. Im fine with getting another bigger tank! lol but the electric bill is already to much =( Theres a pic. of him not the best it was taken with my phone
yep he's a xenentodon cancila! no worries about your tank size man! hopefully it doesn't hurt itself in the big tank, they have delicate backs and running into the glass could be dangerous for them
can these guys along with hydro gar be in coldwater like there cousins the florida , short nose , ect... sorry for the derail but am starting to want one.

They have far from delicate backs they just bash themselves silly in square tanks as a normal trait.. This is not a Gar it is a Belonid..... A flying fish really.. They are not even close to cousins to any Lepisosteid gar..
