How big does my sump need to be?

Call me crazy but I think the Sump size depends on what media you are using.

Bioballs/scrubbies/wet/dry tend to need the big sump or 1/3 of show tank.

100% submerged Ceramics is (total guess) 1/4 or less of show tank.

Kaldness is 1/8-1/4 of show tank. Another factor is how packed the tank will be (fish).

I have a 300 gl w/an additional 40 gl frag tank inside the stand for grow outs, all on the same sump. I am using Kaldness and the sump is roughly 60gl?? My media can do 6lbs of shrimp per feeding (which im far far away from that haha).

I had a 300 g with a 55g sump loaded with bio media and ran a mag24 pump on it. The tank was heavily stocked. Never had a problem. But a 75g would have been a little bit nicer to set up drip trays and piping
