hey my friggen 45 gallon goldfish tank sprung a leak this morning. i put all my fancy goldies in a rubbermaid tub with their filter and i just got them a odd size hex tank from craigslist. something along the lines of 35 40 gal. anywho the tank has mirror backing which i think is cool to some point but its flaking off and looks like CRAP. any suggestions to remove it? i tried a razor scraper and i figure im going to end up damaging the glass because it isnt working out to well. any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Don't do that if soap has to make contact with the inside of tank.
Avoid ANY SOAP POSSIBLE on the inside of a tank.

the mirror backing is like a paint on the back of the glass. no soap would ever touch the inside of any of my tanks. thanks for caring tho lol. im going to try this stuff that removes graffiti and over spray. if i do use a chemical of some sort do i have to keep away from silicone edges? it wont like, soak thru, will it?

try a pressure hose like at a car wash first..........
you could try to use methyl hydrate on a cloth and let is it for a minute(nail polish remover)
be sure to only wet the cloth so you can control were the methyl hydrate goes.....then of coarse thouroly rinse off and repeat a couple of times with hot watter
make sure to not get any of coarse near the opening to the tank
many will say this is bad because it is chemical...and it is...i used to make signs for buisnesses and we would put mirror coating on signs before we silk screened on top
we messed up a few in every order wich is probable when making like 10 000 signs and thats what we would use to remove it...if that didint work we would resort to laquer thinner and i dont recomend this.....methyl hydrate evaporates real fast like alchohol
use in a well ventalated area if you do this and like i said rinse and rinse..........

:duh:nothing is working thus far and im getting irritated. it sucks. is there something i can put in the tank as a background on the inside of the tank. i know there is all those diy background threads and such but i dont want anything stupendous and amazing. this is a 35 gallon hex front tank for goldfish. just something that isnt so trashy to look at because the tank is in my front room. i need help.

btw sorry if i come off as anxious and annoyed but not only was my tank leaking yesterday my hob filter for the tank was leaking too. so now all my carpet where my temp rubbermaid pond is sitting is SOAKED so i either have to put the fish and crap in the tank without getting the stuff off of the back or my carpet is going to mildew. unless i can find a quick cover for it then i can throw it in set up the tank and move the stuff over. then try to use my shampooer to get this water up. ugh!:swear:
