How Could You?...A dogs's Point of View

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow that def got to me =[

yeah my dog is adopted from a county shelter, and I couldnt have asked for a better dog. When time/money permits I plan to adopt a second. Its very sad. My dog stays with me for life, I am her third home and last home. I may not have as much time as I used to, but she still has play time, she is very loved and when I move like I am in october I always go way out of my way (and sometimes budget) to make sure we go to a place she is allowed. I would never give her up.

Well, that ruined my day :(

Makes me proud that I have a rescue dog.

This is why, IMO, dogs should not be sold at pet stores, or even from breeders. There are too many abandoned dogs in this country, and I think people should go to a shelter and adopt a mutt instead of going to buy some purebred dog just becuase it has 15 pages of linneage papers.

Manditory spaying and neutering would help, there are many states that do not even have programs to spay and neuter animals and thats why they have high-kill shelters and do things like gas them. There are a ton of youtube videos and they are very terrible to watch, but I think its important to know that this kind of thing goes on. Maybe when you drop off a senior pet you should have to watch a video that will show they reality of what is going to happen to them. Horses to are in the same boat, beloved pets for years till it become inconvenient.

I volunteered in an animal shelter for 6 or 7 years. They were a no kill shelter, but when we didn't have enough room, some animals would have to be transfered to other shleters that were. It brooke my heart, as the older less attractive ones were the first to go no matter how sweet they were.

So sad to read. This is why my furry pets are all shelter rescues. And all have been 'fixed'. My previous cat was rescued just as she was being prepped for the farewell injection. I saw her in the treatment room as I was bringing in a food donation to the shelter. Once her eyes locked on mine there was no turning back.

by far the saddest posts ive read on here-its heartbreaking. this is the reason i fix my cats and dogs, and always adopt strays-all of my pets (3 cats, 1 dog) were free. like a previous poster stated, spaying and neutering should be mandatory. period. unless that dog is used to breed, and then they need to set a limit on the litters produced.

im not even keen on dogs and im crying....im currently looking after my friends dog for a week and could just see her throughout both stories.

im blaming it on hormones.oh the joys of being female!

your too funny Chloe, I pretty much stand alone among co-workers and family for being a complete sucker when it comes to kids and animals, and usually use the I got something in my eye when I get teary eyed and vaclemt, because I know they think I am ridiculous.

Definitely tough to read this type of stuff. We have been considering another cat for a while. I think i may have to go adopt another now to make myself feel better.

i hope you get another one...

the wife wont read this after i told her i was sat at my desk crying my heart out and i didnt even finish reading it all. its good though Liz, very good.

we tried to get a rescue dog before we got nero our chocolate labrador. we went through a bunch of questions and once they got to my occupation we were disqualified from adopting from that shelter.
Apparently being in the military was a bad thing to these people who complain about too many dogs not being adopted yet there we were, a young couple looking to start a family with £40k+ a year coming in and a big house with garden and a huge dog walking field a mere 200m away provided by the base for that prurpose. but they said no way.

we have both grown up with dogs so we were experienced, settled into married life and had the insurance ready to phone them up with dog breed and age so cover was immediate but they said no. it baffled me because you couldnt really find a more suitable family for a dog to go into, other than a job change. so some shelters arent the magical places they are supposed to be.
we ended up buying our pure breed chocolate lab and wouldnt wish for anything but him for when we have kids. i dont think we could have done better.
