Particularly the larger growing varieties like chagoi, etc...
(I do not plan on getting koi any time soon, but I am feeding more responses into the subject so anyone else doing their own research has more to go off of)

I personally come here for monster fish advice because there is no other website as informative.
There are ton of sites dealing with koi and koi health. Why rehash it here?.
Growth can vary a lot. I’ve had some put on 2”+ a month and others only reach 13” by their 3rd year.
This is my first year with chagoi and ochiba. My ochiba has been putting on some good size, but is too fast for me to catch to check growth. My chagoi I can’t say has impressed me yet growth wise.
Like kendragon said, there are other forums specific to koi that have a wealth of knowledge just on them.
There are many variables affecting the growth of any fish, beyond genetics and feeding.
The most relevant to me, are frequent large water changes.
A friend kept a tank of koi indoors, in his office at a casino, and I was amazed they never seemed to grow beyond 7 or 8".
I theorize, it was because very little water was changed and nitrate levels were high.
I bought 2 bags at a local club fall auction, a 3" butterfly koi and a few 2" goldfish, and kept them in a 75 until spring thaw when they ended up in the pond.
within a year, the goldfish had almost tripled in size.
and the koi was @ 1'.
