How Fast Do Oscar Grow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From what i read and seen through the growth of mine and friends, On the average Oscar grow an inch a month untill they hit around 9-10 then there growth slow down. On the average it will take an oscar a year and a half (give or take a month or two) to reach 12".
Of course as stated there many factors too that can change this varible.

mine did the same when i set them on hikari, just dont feed for a while, then theyl like it, how big are the cons in comparison?

Hi, sorry never got notification of replies. They are about 3-4 inches big now, most convicts were their size and a little bigger. The convicts showed more aggression towards the red tail catfish since he was trying to hide in their territory.

Once i redid the tank, i removed 3 dozen convicts, and left 2, m/f . I noticed over the course of 2 weeks, my tiger oscar was getting beat up pretty bad. His hole left side, has white gouges on it where the convicts bit him, and ripped out scales. Then my albino oscar started going after him since he was weak. I removed the male convict, but the abuse kept up. So i removed the female convict, moved around some of the territory to discover the bastards had more fry, which is why they were overly aggressive towards the oscars. However now the white albino goes after the tiger still, and they just developed Ick so im treating that now

Do the convicts bully the small Oscars?

What are you going to keep the Red Tail Catfish in?

Not the biggest because I haven't power fed him but he does get a wide variety of food, a base diet of Hikari Gold with prawns and treats of crickets, mealworms, peas, sweetcorn, bloodworm etc.

gorgeous colors on them. My black one looked nice, till he got pretty beat up. First i thought he had hole in the head, because of all the white holes he was getting on him, and scales missing, till i caught the other oscar picking on him, and the convicts fin nipping. Treating for ick now, and hoping the survive. But they have definatly grown bigger. They were the largest that petsmart sold, and now they are a good 2 inchs larger then what they have now in the tank.

Ive weaned them onto freeze dried krill (they eat it right out of my hand) and Hikari cichlid bio-gold pellets super growth

btw the last 2-3 pics you posted are dead links :(

I have had my oscars for a few months and they havnt grown at all. I have a 65 gal with a 20 gal sump and I do a 30 gal change each week once or twice. My pleco dirtys the water up, and I heard frequent water changes and tons of food helps. I feed them cichlid staple, sinking carnivore pellets (Hikari), cichlid gold, and occasionally blood worms. Anything I can feed them to make them show some sort of growth.
