i reciently put my pleco back in my oscar tank beceause of some missing tetras and was just curious what the growth rate was like for them

Hard to say. I have two of the same "common" pleco. One is 13", one is 6". Both are about the same age. Actually, the smaller plec is probably a couple months older than the bigger one.
Water quality, food quality, environment quality and genetic quality are what matter.
Both plecs were obtained at about 1.5" long and are now about 3 years old.

in Taiwan, some keepers try to use HQI light for the plecos, compared with generally light
it's batter than much, My friend told me that he's pleco pleco grow up well.

ive had two in the past that grew huge in about 2 yrs 12in plus. another one ive had for about 4 yrs is only 6in. it seems to me that genetics play some part

I got my sail fin gibby when he was about 1.5" and in two years he's now aver the 12" mark.

Is that right by using the MH light will speed up the growth of the pleco. Wow, I must try it.... ;)

in the past 6 months my sail fin has grown from 4 cm to 10cm i think it depends on the species of plecos common ones where i am grow pretty quick

Its really hard to say so far i had around 30~40 pcs of those hi fin plecos in my 35 gal aquarium with 4 pcs of driftwoods and 2 sponge filter, i just feed them some sinking pellets or tetra bits and some frozen blood worms and they grew very fast.

i bought them last oct. 2005 around 1"~1.5" and now they are 5"~6" long so far there no heater, I just place it at our garage with the temp at morning is 30~31 degree at night is around 25~28 degree's.

may be it need some time to adjust or may be the tank is to crowded for them to grow up take some days to observe! :naughty:
