This may be a stupid question, but I am not sure of the answer so I am asking anyway.

When I change my water I typically siphon 20-25% out of the tank, and then add the Water Treatment, I then fill back up with a hose. Should I let this water sit for a while before turning my filters back on, so the treatment can do it's job, or is it Ok to turn the filters back on right away?

What about for bigger changes (say >75%)?

Also, when I add the conditioner, I do it for the entire tank volume, not just the amount I added back in. Is that Correct?

Turning the filters back on right after you've completed the water change is OK. What brand of "water treatment" do you use?

I turn mine on right after. I use Prime and you dose for the tank volume. And unless you have an obvious issue that needs to be addressed 50% weekly changes is about the max you should do

+1

Dechlorinator is almost instant. When I do water changes I add the dechlorinator directly to the tap water as it is being add into the tank. Then when I finish filling I turn the filters back on.

Thanks

I have been using API Tap Water Conditioner. The Petco by me doesn't sell Prime, and I normally just pick this up when I get dog food. The closest real LFS to me is about 20 minutes away, so I don't go there often.

I use prime and stress coat (depends which I have at the time).
I always wait about 5 minutes to turn the filters back on.
That's just me. I know its supposed to be "instant", but it does not hurt to wait IMO.

Unless I drain below the filter intake I do not turn them off at all. I figure the water circulating will help mix the water conditioner and new and old water faster and keep O2 levels up.

I Usualy leave my filter on and just treat the water in the bucket let it set for a few seconds and dump it in. Never really put much thought into it

I only turn off the HOB filters when doing water changes and leave the canister filters running. I would guess that the additional water movement from the filters could only improve the dispersion of the particular water conditioner you are using.
