Thank you all for the info. I am learning about ATF too.

There is another recent thread here where people discuss GATF growth. There is a strawman proposal that there are two kinds - fast and large growing one and the opposite. I don't know if I buy it but having a puny experience myself, I am listening to all and learning.

The fast growing ones IIRC have two examples - Ariberto's 40" 4-year old and Greenerink's 22" 2.5-year old. So your 17" 2.5-year old is not too far off.

But it appears (and the reasons can be many) that most of the GATF people report on MFK grow ~2x slower if not even slower yet. I am not talking about the initial growth over the first year but overall growth over the years, meaning that for an average hobbyist GATF, it would take 5 years to get to (Greenerink's) 2' and 8 years (if ever) to get to 40" (Ariberto's).

PS: Haha, it's actually my thread. https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...atus-african-tigerfish-16-in-4500-gal.683787/

I'd like to note that mine actually grew to this size maybe only 20months or so.. definitely less than 2.5 years. I now recall getting it the summer of 2015.. which is now only entering summer of 2017... my supplier has records to adjust my memory.. lol. I got him/her at 24cm.. and I believe the growth rate has been capped due to the tank size for the past half year... so maybe actually it only took 1.5 years to get from 24cm to now which it seems from eye balling approaching 56-57cm. Since I've been getting endless delays on building out a new monster setup for the fish, I may just set up a temporary intex pool to house the gatf.. he/she hasn't been happy and has shredded my stingrays like no other. :(
