that tank would just be a grow out .. most Pbass can get 24" and the catfish can get more then that .. both of which have fast growth rates ..

since your asking for fish that would be good for life .. you need to look at things like oscars .. or jags .. fish like that .. not 2 foot plus monsters ..

Ok but what I'm saying now is that if they take a long time to grow that large then I can probably sort out a bigger tank when it is needed.

get the tank first then the fish ... im telling you .. to get a tank that is going to be able to house these things for life your going to be spending thousands just for the tank .. plus stand and filters and lights .. and so on .. so if your not ready to spend $5,000 on a tank .. you need to re think your choice of fish ..

Cool 14", how long did it take to get that big? I've got a slightly smaller tank as well so if the lima is small I can grow it out in there.

Only picked that one up a couple of weeks ago, but i believe it has taken a good while to reach that size. Picked up a pair of 12" silver sharks at the same time, they have personality at that size, look great, won't get much bigger and mine will take food from fingers (just an idea for ya;))

Also have a pair of 2 inch bass that i'm growing out, they don't seem to be growing at the same rate as some of the larger catfish do and don't expect to be moving them in with 14incher for at least a year. I've never been aware of a Lima SN getting much larger than 18inches, had mine for a year and it's only around 8inches still.

Thanks, sound advice.. I've got a huge stand and filter (can't remember what it is right now) so I'm only looking for a tank, and I know of a guy who makes huge ones cheap (£200 for the 72"). I think I'll get some oscars or smaller cichlids.

Dats to me don't really look like cichlids. Yeah thay can get huge, but take a long long time to grow and the largest known one in the uk was maybe 18inches when it died not long ago. Colourful fish.

Big swarm of clown loaches might work for ya?
