Thanks, sound advice.. I've got a huge stand and filter (can't remember what it is right now) so I'm only looking for a tank, and I know a guy who makes huge ones cheap (£200 for the 72"). I think I'll get some oscars or smaller cichlids.

im talking about tanks around the 500 gal mark .. like 8'x4'x2' or something like that .. you would not HAVE to go that big .. but really the width and length are going to be important for the larger fish ..

its like people who buy pacu's and toss them into a 55 gal tank .. yea it works for a while .. but they will get to big .. and they will die . or you will have to get rid of them .. and what is the point ..

you have have beautiful fun fish that fit in a 150 .. and not have to spend as much as you would on a car .. leave the HUGE fish to the people who really want to be deep in the hobby .. . if you are ready to spend that kind of cash then by all means ... join the club and get some big fish .. but just understand what your getting your self into ...

CaveDweller i am not trying to stear you away from these beautiful monsters .. just inform you of just what your getting into ..

i love my dats and sting rays .. but i know how much its going to cost .. and i am ready to spend it ..

if you want advice on how and what to do with monsters like this .. i would be more then happy to help with what i can .. but you asked for what you could keep for life in the 150 .. so thats the advice i was giving .. most people here just started shooting out random crap .. not paying any attention to the fact that you asked for fish that can be in a 150 for life ...

180's are perfect for fish that are going to max out around 12-16". people will tell you that if the tank is 2 feet wide you can have fish up to 2 feet long, so they have room to turn around, but personally I think 12-16" is a better guide so your fish will actually have some swimming room and have a happier life.

Dat's, cichla, most big catfish and arowana's would all do much better (long-term) in tanks 3-4 feet wide and 8++ long.

If I had a 180, I would probably just have a couple big cichlids (3-4) and then have a nice colony of good sized clown loaches. People tend to overstock 180's like crazy because they think they are a lot bigger than they really are.

:iagree: really a good idea to plan a good stock and be ready... but if you know your going to be going larger .. then you can always work that way too..

I know, you're right I should probably stick with smaller fish first. Also I'm still only planning, If I get a fish I'll make sure I can keep it in comfort for its whole life.

glad to hear it ..

and you dont HAVE to get smaller fish .. you could do something like a fire eel .. they get huge but do not need a ton of space since they dont swim like other fish ..

just post some ideas of stock that your having and people will give you more ideas .. and help you out ..

i only keep a few different kind of fish .. so i dont even think about some of the other amazing fish that are out there .. and since i dont know your style .. maybe others ideas would be right up your ally ..
