iv heard ghost shrimp add so little waste to an aquarium thats its almost completely nonexistent. so first off, is that true? and secondly, how many could i add to a ten gallon and be safe? lets just say hypothetically that they will be the only ones in it, and it is a moderately planted/very well established tank. they will not be the only ones in it, im just using that as a gauge to judge just how much waste a certain number will create in relation to the size of the tank. :) thanks in advance

5...billion...gajilldron :grinno:

I have a 15g shrimp tank with low light plants and about 200 red cherry shrimp and even then only needed to feed like 2 .5" food sticks per day which is a miniscule amount of food relative to the gallonage. I started with 10 shrimp btw. I just recently sold/traded down to about 30-40 shrimp and they're still breeding like crazy. I don't even recall my nitrates showing a difference on the test scales.

Ghost Shrimp are considerably bigger but I'd imagine thier food needs are prolly still relatively low on the scale compared to fish. Hell you might barely notice an amount less than 50 ghost shrimp in a 10g. I knew i had alot of cherries in my 15 but certainly didn't look like hundreds.

lol okay, so the consensus is that it basically doesnt matter so long as they aren't literally stacked on top of each other? correct? :D

i was looking for how many ghost shrimp i could put in my 55 for use of feeders (i put them in there before i feed) good to know ill probably dont have enough money to over stock on ghost shrimp
