How many oscars in 500 gallon tank

So I have heard that in some cases oscars could get 17-18 inches .so what are the odds of that happening.also just wondering would pond weeds that grow fast be able survive giant gourami . Although they don’t really look as good as some of the other plants they would help with the ammonia and also look better than nothing

I would say 14-16" is more likely under the right conditions and genetics. Unless you see a tape measure next to a 17" oscar, I would say that is really really rare, and I haven't heard any claims on this.

Just get a 1 or 2 pond weeds and see what your gourami does.

I have used semi aquatic (pond type) plants for years. But many need a kind of shelf to be only half submerged.
Papyrus is one of my favorite, along with terrestrial type hanging with roots in the water. And i maintain a very low nitrate level with them.199D2C17-C09F-4662-B57C-C0C9E02E1E3A_1_201_a.jpeg

Below submerged papyrus roots, I doubt oscars would eat them, they are like paper, or cardboard.

another shot of a tank using Papyrus, I find them attractive

These work in tanks of of @20" tall resting on the substrate, much deeper tanks may require a shelf.
Below my normal nitrate levels, using these plants as nitrate sponges.

Really helpful thanks a lot

Oscars are a schooling fish. Foot print of the tank is more important than gallons. And thay like deeper water than most other Cichlids 30" or more . Silver dollars make great dithers fore Oscars
I would not put any pred cat fish in the tank, it will eat and kill your fish. Good luck.

Most large CA cichlids do this too. This behavior isn’t seen much because most people keep them is small tanks and not enough of them. Give them the space, and they’ll shoal. I see this w/ any of my thorichthys species. Same thing, smaller scale. That must be pretty cool watching those oscars shoal like that ?

Uhhhh so ... the two smaller oscars in the other grow out tank . Well my blood parrot killed em both
And the thing is the blood parrot is only 3” and the oscars were both 4.5”
Sooo
At a store near by there are a few 12-14” inch oscars .
and also just a thought.how would a mono peacock bass do with Oscar and gg?
And if they are compatible should I add 2 bigger oscars or should I add 1 mono peacock .
And are monos very aggressive?
Also what is the growth on them?
And if I did get em bigger oscars should I expect aggression ?(becoz the oscars I have are only 8-9”)

You need to read up on your fish before you buy any. P. Bass are not for beginner's . Personally Oscar's and large cats and other large preds. are not. Just my thoughts. And yes some bass and Oscar's can live together. But the best way to do that is to get them all at the same time as baby's . Bass about 3 in. and Oscar's about 2 in. Bass do better in groups of 5 .
Ps can we see the 500 gal tank. And yes all P.Bass tend to be on the grumpy side.

I wouldn’t say I am a beginner just new to the cichlid side of things( I have monster ponds with :alligator gar ,arapaima, pacus, iridescent sharks, silver arowana....
and also have two nano planted tanks with: chilli rasboras, endlers, cherry shrimp ...)
.and obviously I do my research before any purchase. I will upload the pics in a week time .
Thanks tho
Also I have never peacock had bass so would be helpful to have more opinions on this working out

it's 50/50 chance of working out. Even an 8 foot rectangular tank wasn't large enough for an oscar and pbass to work out their differences, seeing as your enclosure is about 12 feet across is anyone's guess. You just buy and try, and then move to a different tank if it doesn't work.
