I've seen two, but is there any way i can put three 10 gallons next to eachother with no support between them/subsequently no risk of the wood cracking beneath the middle one? I know lumber is a lot stronger than we give it credit for, but yknow... better safe than sorry... which is a bit of a hypocritical statement given the nature of my question

Basically i'm redesigning the stand that holds my 29s/20 longs. It has come to my attention that the width of my stand would perfectly fit 3 10 gallons side by side. I have two options here if i want to do this, either I sacrifice viewing ability and have them on a bottom shelf/rebuild it to have the 29s sit up to nearly chest level/the 20s at eye level, or have the 10s at eye level and the other tanks at basically where they're at now with little sacrifice to viewing capability. I'm thinking 2x6s or 4x4s just for that shelf would be my best option? i'll make a quick design shortly of what i'm imagining.

nevermind this looks like ass... back to the drawing board

Yeah i Would not reccomend staggering the 29's like that. But I trust the 2x4's to hold 3 10's. Just wouldnt trust screws with how this stand is laid out
Why not the 29s? They're staggered just so the tanks fit together better. The stand itself for the bottom two rows is pretty much just two individual stands next to eachother.

Im just thinking you will get tired only seeing half a tank LOL

Asked and answered! :)

I think you should be concerned about that design for the top of the stand. The weight of those three tanks is being supported entirely by the shear strength of the screws attaching the horizontal member to the uprights. Not good. At the very least, put a sheet of 3/4" plywood on top of the stand, extending beyond the tank at each end and over top of the uprights.

Or even better let the crossmembers sit on top of the upright posts instead of inside them.
Oh yeah why didn't I think of that. That's an easy fix

I mean it looks... alright... I toyed with the idea of putting the 10s on the bottom but I can't make them fit because of the middle piece supporting the two 29s. Funny how the gallonage on that top rack is still probably less than one of the 29s.
