How much is an 8" Tiger oscar worth?

Hi,

I picked up a 90 gallon tank that came with one 8" tiger oscar that is in very good health. There are no signs of hole in the head disease and he seems to not have any problems eating. I am on the fence about keeping him and was wondering if anyone could advise me on a fair price if I ended up selling him. The person I got him from paid $40 when the oscar was about 5" long.

Wow! $40 seems a little steep for a 5" Oscar. I wouldn't even put that price tag on it at 8".
 
Oh.. Wait ur trying to sell him.. About 20$ should be ok... But if its got some really nice colours could fetch some more... Post a pic...
 
If you like the fish, keep him, because you won't get more than 5$ for him. I wouldn't pay 20$ even if the tiger oscar was 14". Generally, people prefer to buy small oscars and watch them grow.
It's red oscars, long fin oscars, sunshine oscars, etc that you can sell for around 20$+.
 
i saw an 8 in tiger for sale for 19.99 the other day. This seems bout right

That doesn't mean it will sell though. My lfs has been trying the same oscar for 6 months now and it's only 10$, large oscars just aren't in demand. My guess is you saw it at a pet store, but around here, nobody sells tiger oscars, they give them away for free...again, if you like the fish, just keep him.
 
yeah you wont get much even if it is that big I wouldn't pay more than $10.00 personally, tigers are a dime a dozen around here
