Instead of a sponge, I use a scraper with a blade to clean algae off of my saltwater aquarium. It's pretty common in the salt world if you have glass because coralline algae doesn't come off easy. Just make sure to get one with a metal rod if you buy one because the ones with plastic handles/rods have too much flex in them.

Thank you. I dont got a metal scraper but i got an aquarium scrub brush with a long handle and a magnetic scraper that goes on both sides of the glass. Idk what you call em but lol. Thing works mint.

They cheap to buy. This is the one I use for the rear glass as I can’t reach on my large tanks.
