A lfs has one, I thought it was really pretty. It looked almost orange in color, with red eyes. Just wondering if this is a common occurrence, or if they are rare?

they are very common here we have the common albino plecs and the albino bristlenose plecs. around here they are the same price as the common morph

albino bristlenose are fairly common, good algae eaters and only get to about 6 inches I have one he is a great fish!

When I asked the owner at lfs how big it would get, she said the bigger the tank the better, can get like 2' long..........is this right? or was she trying to get me to not buy it ? ! .........

probably a common pleco ,ihad a common get to about 14 inches in a 55 ,too much fish not enough tank! your probably better off waiting until you can find a bristlenose. look at a few different stores usually somebody will have one or can order one for you.

Hold on here,

A common pleco(albino) is very very rare.

If you mean an albino chocolate...those are man made and are not really albinos. This are easy and cheap to get a hold of.

An albino bristlenose are also cheap and easy to get.

An Albino Sailfin gets a little harder to find and cost a little more.

An Albino hypostomus(common) and a real albino Pterygoplichthys pardalis (natural) are very hard to find and would cost alot.

To OP: An albino Pterygoplichthys sp could get over 20 inches(sailfin , common or albino chocolate) but I haven't seen it yet.

What he described sounds like a "chocolate" to me. Not very rare, but I think they are cool. I almost bought 1 but bought a L001 instead. I wanted one of the "normal" pleco's to make my rare ones stand out.
