you start with one male and one female.

Then Add water!

Seriously, what type of fish? Convicts, guppies, mollies

IMO Covicts are fun and very easy to breed. I've had mine for around 2 months and have had 2 successful batches. The first is about a month old and getting pretty close to 1/2 inch already. Best bet is to get a breeding pair rather than getting a bunch and waiting until they pair up.

Just give them a cave or flat surface to lay eggs.

I had been only feeding live occasionally but I might have to start throwing in fry earlier because I don't have the space for more babies.

You could always breed expensive and easy fish like angels, or livebearers and then sell each fry once it reaches a nice size for like 5-8 feeders. So a spawning of 100, would mean 800 feeders.

Breeding your own feeders isn't really economical once you factor in the cost of the breeding tank and at least two fry tanks and the amount of time/food you use.

You should get 1 or 2 more females. The male will chase the lone female and stress her out. Remember, guppies eat their fry so alot of plants and hiding places for the fry are needed.

I've been thinking about doing it myself.

I got a 10 gal and a 5 gal currently unused, so I could get like 10 guppies or mollys and put them in the 10 gal, using the 5 gal to separate the fry.

then use the males for feeders, let the females change sex and repeat.

I heard you need like 5 tanks for breeding, but that is only if you actually want to get fancy, gupies, will 2 small tanks be enough just to breed as feeders?

comments, thoughts?

got 3 big plants when i stick those in there they will have all kinds of places to hide plus with the big rock thats in there they should be good. i do have a question about my filter its the kind that is on the top of the tank. it has a plastic piece that sticks in the tank about 3/4s down with slits in it is that ok? i would sure hate for the fry to get sucked up in the filter. dont think that would be a fun ride for them. thanks for the help

simple, put a sponge over the tube, simply cut a hole in the sponge and slide it up, my wife breeds guppies and another option, in some of her tanks instead of a hob filter(hang on the back) she makes her own sponge filter, she takes a big sponge puts it in the bottom of tank and puts 2 tubes in it with the air pump hooked up. if interested in that just message me and i will email you how to do it and pics

easiest thing to do is either get a big tank and just toss in like 20 guppies and alot of plants or get convicts and have a 3 tank set up going. 20 gallon for the parrents, 10 gallon fry grow out, then u move the fry to a 30 or bigger and grow them till theyre big enough. food wise, the best thing would be baby brine shrimp, but seem like a hassle so i use guppy roids aka crushed up hikari pellets :D toss a bunch into a food possessor and ull get a fine consistency wich the fry love and grow real fast on gud luck!
