How to bring out colors in oscar fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use hikari gold also and I must say the reds on my fish are fantastic, they're bright and extremely colorful. I just want their blacks on them darker haha. Cause their heads are kindof green other peoples I'd seem to have darker heads and stuff. And especially when mine are angry they get a light tan color.

Cause their heads are kind of greenish in color. And in other pictures I have seen of other people's Oscar fish they tend to have darker heads than all three of mine. My Oscar fish's colors also change dramatically when they are angry with one another and their dark colors become a very light tan color.

sorry re-typed the previous one. Screwed up typing on my phone I guess haha.

Yes, their colors change a lot. They show a more stable dark motif when your have them against black background. I use cheap black construction paper from the dollar store and tape it onto the back of the tank.

Oscars may be stressed by bright light and may be lighter in color when stressed. You could reduce lighting of add some floating plants like water lettuce to dim it down for him.
