How to waterproof a plywood aquarium

i have found that pond liners can sometimes put moisture into the wood and rot it out, my father works at the MN Zoo aquarium department and on their large concrete dolphin aquarium they used an epoxy paint

Anybody else heard of this?

YOu missed probably the best one.. Sanitred... it stays elastic and it eliminates the need for silicon because they have a primer that will make it permanently bond to acrylic or glass. Its also as easy to use as just painting it on.

I think it's a pretty strong claim to say that any method is the "best one". Do you have some more info to back this up? I have not personally had good experiences with Sanitred. I got a small sample and didn't find that it adhered particularly well to glass even with the primer. I've heard other experienced members (VLDesign and nolapete I think) report similarly unimpressive results.

When I started this thread I wanted to stick to tried and true methods that have been used successfully. If you have links to successful long-term builds using Sanitred please post them.

This build is mine, I change my name... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/fo...d.php?t=259560 using the primer to bond the Sanitred to the acrylic works great. Way better and easier that messing with silicon. I used silicon originally as told in the build doc but its all Sanitred now.

How about the Kerdi Membrane from Schluter?

Ive never used it for waterproofing a tank but I do plan to use it this weekend to waterproof my shower... Its almost like a wallpaper type material that can be applied to almost any surface cement board, drywall, or floor decking. They claim it to be 100% waterproof but like I said I havent seen it used on a tank.
