hows this idea for a w/d

Drop your bio-containment so it's in the water some, otherwise looks good.

Do a step-by-step on this if you can...maybe we can get it made a sticky, this could be expanded to fit larger sizes.

Are you putting the carbon in the W/D? or hanging a HOB also? Either way carbon won't harm the W/D.

You just keep getting better & better...:clap Bravo!

in a wet/dry filter shouldnt the media be out of the water? or is that just to reduce noise? In my filter I made I have the bio tower above the water then drain into the sump (really just so I can have a higher capacity sump...

(sorry to high jack, just though that this question would relate to this project as well)

1/3 Wet... 2/3 Dry (trickle).

I is possible to have a full trickle (bio) tower, it's just not a W/D. (see Johnptc's thread)

The sump capacity won't be diminished much by the media.

1/4 to 1/3 of the main tank depending on bio-load.

and I heard somewhere that you should aim to cycle the full volume of water 2-3 times per hour. Is that the same for all types of filters?

and another question.
does it matter where in the filter the bio section happens? I'm guessing first is uncool because it would clog up to some extend and lose working surface area with out a mechanical pre-filter.

and another question.
I saw johnptc's bio tower pics. Someone said a tall bio tower is more effective than a wide one. Is it worth thinking through a bio tower that stands up in the sump rather than just being part of the tank. I'm thinking wide diameter pvc or something which might stand up in the tank...
but I don't know enough to know if I think well yet...

and ... another question
Is it good or bad to keep a bio tower/section in/out of much light? Should a w/d filter be hidden away or could I put it where it'll get heaps of natural light.

Sorry if this is too many questions, but what is water polishing? I tried but the cloth soaks up the water.
