ID SHARK GROWTH RATE!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stacy you have 6 ID's in a 75? Are you crazy...they need a much much much much larger abode if they are ever gunna grow anymore, and not be stunted....plus your pushing it with an 11"er with only a couple more inches of clearance from tank wall to tank wall...eventually he won't be able to turn much at all.

Had this baby for >2 months, I now hand feed it: green peas and beef heart. He eats a TON! He has never been spooked in the pond so far. Very relaxed and calm.

Anyone know if growth on an ID will start back up once it's been stunted?

I was just given a 2.5 year old that's only 6 inches, probably from being in a 30 gallon tank with too many decorations and too many fish. I would like to move him to a bigger tank and let him grow, just not sure if it works like that.

Wow,two and a half years old and only six inches. The poor thing must have been in pretty bad shape.I have no scientific studies or papers to cite but I think your shark should gain some size if kept under better conditions.

Yeah I don't think the previous owner had any idea what the fish needed. But he does seem totally healthy otherwise, looks great, very active, just very small. Thanks for the help, I'm gonna move him to a bigger tank and hope for the best

UPDATE on my rescued ID shark - He's grown significantly, probably about 7.5-8" now, so 1.5-2". He's in a 110 gal that's 4'x2'x2', eating massivore pellets. Doesn't stop moving and has a great personality. Really awesome fish, hopefully he keeps growing!

Great job and great of you to keep reporting. Keep it up, please.

They never stop moving - one of the traits of genuine sharks. That plus others = the name :)

Good to see that the fish is doing much better under your care and conditions.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep updating. He's become one of my favorite fish. I like him so much I just ordered 2 albino ID's! I've always loved the look of the albinos, especially when and think they'll look great against the black background of my 600, which they'll be moved into eventually. I've also done a lot of reading and found that they prefer not being solo, so it should be good for the original ID
