Well people should not keep them in 29 gallon!
Females won't get much bigger than 5"
Males can get to 7"easily, some bigger.
And your right, it's not impossible, but it is bloody cruel.
I have never seen or even heard of a 7" Salv. Most places say maximum of 5" and 6" is a rarity. I would believe it if i saw evidence, but otherwise i dont

This pic describes mostly what people say. About 6". Ive seen some websites say 10" which is BS and some say 4" which isnt right.

Ive seen no bigger than a 5.5" male.

I have seen them reach 8" in person.
A lot of sites will list them at 6 but they commonly get bigger than that.
A lot of these free websites are incorrect and outdated.you can find many inaccuracies in their information.
There is no way you can justify keeping a fish like a salvini in a 37 gallon.

I still dount that they "commonly" get 8", but i will take tour experience as credit that they do in fact get that size.

Its up to the OP i guess, there ahas been a lot of good options listed...

I saw 2 7-8 inch Salvini at my lfs yesterday. I may be tight eventually, any adult would just go buy a larger tank when needed or stock with something smaller. 5 star generals. Listed as max 7 inch but my male is about 6 inch, Imo you should get what you want, if you like Salvini and are going to look after it as a wet pet there's alot worse places it could end up than alone in 37g, like in a 120 with 50 other large fish! So many people who actually have no clue on stocking or maintenance.

Hi!
There is no need to argue! :)
Although I am into keeping fish for a couple of years, I am always interested in other hobbyists oppinions and still discovering new species weekly(they are new to me).
Might be, there are still some swimming below my radar, I just don´t know of their existence yet, until you tell me about it.
That was my intention for opening the thread.
I am going to upgrade to a roundabout 50 gallon tank, 40 inches long,16 inches wide, 18 or 20 inches high.
I like the salvini, but i think it is still too small for a pair.
But i think about a pair of t-bars or hrps and swordtails.
Suggestions are welcome always.

I probably wouldn't do the salvini as first choice, but if I had to house one in a 37g; I'd have no qualms to be honest.

Fish cruelty is a very ambiguous subject, given that fish cant actually say "hey, you're being cruel to me".

It's all about reading the body language and behaviour of the fish, which is how you'd decide if the tank is too small for the fish. Fish hiding excessively or being skittish, is a key sign to a tank being too small, as well as slow development.

This comes with experience.

+1

HRP, Cons, FMs, some of the Acara, Dwarfs, Angels, Salvini, TBar, and Rainbows are all good options, IMO.

I don't really think any central should be kept in tanks under 4foot.Looks like I may be in the minority though.
