It is the Coosa Darter (Etheostoma coosae).
 
shoulda guessed that, Coosa river, Coosa darter, bit of a resemblance?
 
Any locality info? Cyprinids are tough enough even if you know what state they're from. Just look at my Sabine shiner I posted a couple of fish ago...
 
yes please, i started to look in my books and just gave up. a general locale would be nice. Also for the future Something more like darters, or madtoms, or less shiners that look the same like this.
