Cool thanks I will give it a go. Here he is in all his glory. Bigger than I planned but still a little guy. 4in body perhaps?View attachment 1346139
Oh he looks like an L190. The eyes and the lines across the body. And with regards to set up, royals as a whole require very robust filtration, and a HOB may not be enough. As they get bigger, their poop creation as well, not to mention the fact these fellas chew and eat wood so it can be a filter clogger too. Be prepared to clean your filter more often than most .

Yes I'm noticing the big poops already and that's what I'm most worried about I'm looking into canister filters but I'm worried about the flow they may or may notr provide as well as if I am privprovi a diverse enough wood selection. A couple unknown types that I think are the same, some mopani and some spiderwood.

If you're afraid that canisters dont give enough flow, a wavemaker or pump could help. Or you could do a sump system. As for wood, i dont think they are very picky, as long as they can chew it for the fibre, its good enough. They bite up wood like how we eat vegetables essentially. Additional vegetable feeds help with vitamin content, etc.

I started with HOBs then moved to canisters now I am in the process of going to sumps and what I like about sumps is you can completely separate the different types of filtration and can build each stage to your needs and since I tend to keep fish that create an extreme amount of waste then I can overbuild my mechanical filtration so if I go out of town for several days I don't come back to a clogged dead filter.
