Indoor cat pond

don't let us discourage you, we're just trying to help. but i think more strength is needed as well. i would put a doubled 2x4 ring with interlocking corners top, middle, and bottom, then put a 45 degree brace in each corner about a foot out. the top ring could also sandwich the over hang of liner to make it look nice and clean.
keep us posted and we'll help all we can!!!

p.s. i love rtcxtsn's, theyre so much fun to have.

Kris , its walls are 2x10s clamped together then fastened with 5/8 ply strips 8 inchs wide and 3 feet long glued and screwed every foot, corners are steel banded on the outside and corner braces on the inside.
Redtailking Im in Dutchess cty bout 90 miles north on nyc.

i have no doubt that its strong enough to hold the water, its just holding the water without much flex thats the issue, flex over time will increase, especially under moisture, and give you problems later. turning 2x4's on end relative to the pressure and doubling them reduces the flex a ton. 2x10's are strong but will still easily flex a couple inches or more when positioned like that.

Very nice build so far!

How do you plan to keep the temps up?

I am planning a similar build but my (unfinished cinderblock) basement right now is a brisk 54 degrees. Seems like a challenge or a very expensive electric bill to keep the pond warm.

Thanks Myfish the double 2 x 4 ring seems like a good idea and an easy addition, and Jay I am hoping the 2 inchs of insulation will hold the heat from the heaters and an insulated top will be added too..

I like the idea of a 2x4 ring on the top and bottom of this. Especially since it would hide the overlap of the liner. You could also add some ply between the 2x4 top and bottom rail for added peace of mind, and better looks! This will be awesome when finished and filled!

filtration can be upgraded as the fish get bigger , but i think you will find you can never have too much flow , (someone will argue this point but it will keep the thread busy lol, what your doing seems fine but do pay attention to any potential weak areas before filling it , would love to see this finished and running ,

Hey Flyin lizard how's the 13''rtcxtsn hybrid my dad and I gave you??? Post some pics of him...
Alex

Make sure it is big enough. I am in the process of making one of mine a foot shorter and a foot wider and its a pain because i overbuilt the pond and used a bunch of screws.
