Info on selling cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have not done it myself yet, but I was thinking of an easy to keep quick breeding small cichlid that's not a convict and Jewels came to mind. That and I never see Jewels in Petcos/Petsmart.
I did have 2 Jewels and they spawned 3 days after I bought them, but eggs were gone overnight and bigger one nearly murderized the smaller one. The remaining one is in my 125, doing good so far.20180130_150521.jpg

Another idea is buy some of the marble cons Jeff has, since its a very rare color they probably will sell better than normal cons.

Thanks for all the info :) I will keep researching more about what you've learned and keep you updated on anything that happens or more questions (I will probably have a lot ;))

A couple other "convict like" , easy to breed species that may be less difficult to sell, might be Amatitlania nanoluteus, and Honduran red Points. They remain appropriate size for the tank, and their colors may make them more desirable to other aquarists in your area. Whether or not they are available in your area, may be the rub.
But if you have a local aquarium club, or cichlid society nearby, this may be a better way to find the rarer species of fish.
Aquarium societies are often easy places to take excess fry, they have regular auctions, and swap meets. And may have Breeders Award Programs (BAP) that may interest you, as you grow in the hobby.

I’ve done the salvini/convict/firemouth in a 55g. Didn’t work in the long term. Surprising the most aggressive was the firemouth. But the convict was old, and the salvini was really mellow. The firemouth was relentlessly harassing the other two. I had to remove the firemouth.

Oooopps wrong thread lol!

On topic-Craig’s list and FB haven’t been the best places IME. No matter what kind of fish, it always takes a long time to sell. Lots of low ballers too. Even when you are selling them dirt cheap.
