I used 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" steel beams but I would suggest using stainless steel to anyone building today. Arapaima John uses the ss. The big tank 52k has 36" spacing and 1" thick glass and 5 feet high. The small tank 15k which is the one you are looking at now has 36" spacing most of the way around but the glass is only 4" high and I was able to have only 3/4" glass because of the reduced pressure.bane-uk;933322; said:Hi Arapaimag,
Firstly wow o wow to you for your commitment to your fish, secondly I am in need of some advice if you dont mind.
I am constructing a 6ft x 6ft x 6ft tank and I was wondering what material are your vertical beams between each pane of glass & also what thickness is your glass.
Many thanks
Dan
John Petersen did the actual work with his son. They used GE1200 silicone and it has held up very well. No leaks in either tank since they were built. You can see John installing the glass in the 50k article. He did clamp them after installing the panels. I left the clamps on for a few days and then filled the tank to apply the required pressure.bane-uk;936870; said:Hmmm thats great info thank you. so at 20" spacing 6ft high 12mm should be ok, do just seal the glass to the beams or is there any special process you down for that. sorry for all the questions.
Oh and most definately pics will go up.
