this is going to be saltwater reef, well it will become a reef over time i guess.. i will be using glass, 1/2" thick the glass opening will be somthing like 7' x 2 1/2'... that will work right?
i got the sealer! this is what i am using!
i am finished with the cutting! (besides the lid)
here is a shot from the back looking toward the front, you can see the 3/4ply i cut on 45's and scewed to the front, this made the front sheet very strong, i couldnt move it with my back against the tank and both feet pushing on the lip of the 3/4. it didnt budge! its now sanding/bondoing time then i got to find me a fancy dust mask to paint with the epoxy.
anyone ever seen that stuff i bought to seal the tank used before?
Looking good still, man. I've never seen that stuff that you're using, but I have seen that other Sweetwater stuff, it works good. I know some people on here have used fiberglass though, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. G/L...
Not all Epoxy Resin is the same, it depends on what application its designed for. You should check that label on the Bondo. If it Releases enough VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) then it will Kill your fish fast. The Sweetwater is what I'm going to be using on my DIY since it was designed for aquatic and potable water use. Call this number before you use the product and ask them if its safe 404-696-2730 (USA 8:30am – 4:30pm Eastern Time).
damn, i didnt know that, i hope this stuff is ok, i couldnt find anything similar anywhere else, i got that stuff at home depot and auto zone, lowes didnt have anything i could find
well i got bondo in all the corners and on the joints. and half of it is sanded that was a pain in the butt! i came out of the tank looking like casper and my entire house smells like bondo as well. i will get that finished in the morning.
Gator i pulled up the msds for that stuff on their website is there anything on there that might tell me if it safe? http://www.bondo-online.com/fileshare/product_msds/English/764.pdf
that is the link.
here is a picture with bondo sanded in the corner..
I agree w/ Gator, I'd just use the Sweetwater epoxy or something that you know is safe. If you find out that that fiberglass is good then use it, but if you're not sure, use something else that you know is...
