Wow! very detail explanation! your C. amazonarum looks yellowish than mine

Colors can change quite a bit with mood, not to mention the camera settings/lighting. But yes, overall I'd describe mine as being more yellowish/brown than greenish. The pattern on its tail is more similar to your fish than my photo shows, and the dark spot at the base of the tail is usually more prominent. Still, it's quite possible that this genus is more complicated than the current taxonomy reflects. I have no information about where mine originated from - a local fish store tried to sell it to me as a geophagus or possibly a pike cichlid!
