is it safe to keep a CO2 planted tank in bedroom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't even think twice about it. As stated before, the lower amounts of Co2 that you will be injecting would be minimal. Even with dosing a lot of Co2 in relation to a tank, the amount is still pretty low. You probably put out more that the tank does.

CO (carbon monoxide) is a different animal than CO2, although can be fatal in high concentrations. Here is link with some CO2 info. I personally would not be worried about the safety concerns associated with a small bottle of gas on my room, as long as safe handling procedures are followed. If a large leak were present, you would probably hear it, and barring any voilent action to the setup, it is highly unlikely that one would "pop- up" without warning. There is a large safety factor built into compressed gas equipment. If you were the type to check on your tank daily a large leak would be readily apparent (no diffuser action, and more apparent a big ZERO on the pressure gauge). If it were a small leak it probably would not be sufficient enough to seriously contaminate a room to dangerous levels over a short peiod of time. Millions of people have natural gas and propane systems in their homes WITH leaks and are unaware, even with the "rotten egg" smell added. Far more dangerous than CO2. If all safety precautions are followed you will be A-OK. Your local gas supplier will be glad to help and assist you with any questions or concerns relating to safety with with yuor purchase. Sounds like a nice setup you have planned. Good luck!

Have you put any thought into putting the tank outside on the balcony? just as long as the balcony can support the extra weight of the tank. If I recall from years ago, you shouldn't need anything special to keep a nice planted tank in VN just as long as the tank can get controlled lighting. Heck, during the rainy season you won't even have to change the water in the tank and with the temps there, you shouldn't have any trouble with most plants found in aquariums. An aquarium on the balcony would help settle any fears you have with CO2.
well, the aim is make the tank as decoration in the room, not the bancony, you know. Besides, as I planned, the moss and RC won't survive the heat of VN. Still, thanks for the advice.:grinno:

haha how much co2 are you planning to inject?
yes its safe i have one in my room right now.

a co2 cylinder should last a extremely long time probably atleast 6 months. your adding very little co2 daily.

edit: i actually had the connectors come lose and release all the co2 in a week, im still alive. yes i know im amazing.
:WHOA:I'm sure I had been dead before the leak since the room here is not well-ventilated:nilly:

I had a CO2 bottle in my room. My regulator broke and wound up killing all my fish and I didn't even notice a small difference in the room. I would say go for gold and keep us update with loads of pics. Sounds like a great project.
thanks man, this project may be named after my girl ( I'll keep it in secret untill showtime:D

also your room probably has air circulation through out your apt/house so you shouldnt worry about it.
but what if the room is closed to run the air conditioner??:( should it become a killing box?

:D:Dthat sounds "safe" enough, thanks man.
p/s: I will mostly use tools that may not be very pro to you guys, since I'm in VN, buying those pro things will cost me hundreds of dollars to do that, so I'll use something that may looks ....stupid but affortable. Please, keep checking. Thanks again:headbang2

ok, guys, really sorry'bout this delay, me and gf didn't go well and....BAM:nilly::nilly::(, so this plan will need a little change, no more 60cm, it'll go straight to 80*40*40 (cm)-perfect!:headbang2
Actually, this plan still requires fund, which I used most of it for my PC, so I've started to keep the moss, raise them. Now, check the status of these things and remember, it is 30+ degree Celcius in VN right now:nilly:

check out this plant-which I don't know its English name ::irked:

the tank configuration: 2 90cm tubes, 1 30W pumb + traditional filter material, 1 220V fan (cooling function), 2 fish (sucking mouth), small shrimps for algea control, haven't changed water for 3 weeks, the substrate in the bow is ADA Amazon (think so, it makes the water kind of yellow):screwy:

Healthy looking plants you got there. Do you have any problems with the high temperatures and algae?

death by fish tank! I LIKE THAT! ;):D:headbang2:ROFL:

Naw.. it should be fine..

the 10 pound bottle hasnt killed me yet.... if co2 does kill me at some point ill let you know.
And how are you going to do it?:WHOA: Post here as a ghost?

I wouldn't do it man. There was a study conducted on people who kept CO2 aquarium systems in their bedrooms, and the results showed after long term exposure, people actually started to exhale CO2 from their lungs.

YOU'LL BE FINE. THE CO2 IS DIFUSED INTO THE WATER WCH IS ABSORBED BY THE PLANTS, WICH IN TURN,RELEASE O2 BACK INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.IT WONT FILL UR ROOM WITH CO2
