Just picked this guy up. Dealer said that this was a "tangerine tiger" hap. I just wanted to be sure and get some other opinions. Thanks!

Looks like one to me.
Tangerine's have more blue in their heads and towards the top half of their bodies.

well, I just met the parents of this fish (after questioning breeder).... Alas it is a tangerine tiger. I'll post pics of parents soon. This is just a youngster and his colors/stripes are just comming out. Guess we all cant be right all the time.

Indeed - after looking again I'm not seeing the crooked broken stripe of a steveni nor any sign of the white blaze down the face. I'm also not seeing the 2nd small horizontal stripe under the top fin of the empress - my bad - sorry - nice pickup!

It's always good to have a reliable dealer for proper ID - the parents even better.

To further help you out, heres a pic of 3 Red Empresses, 2 female Red Empresses, and one male Red Empress, there is also a juvenile Tangerine Tiger in the very back of the picture. The Red Empress is what you've mistaken for a Tangerine. The Tangerine Tiger's have vertical lines and Red Empresses have horizontal lines. That is one distinct trait to let you know the difference. Hope i have helped. Happy fish keeping. NOTE: Other fish in the pic. Which i would assume you know. :)
