Hmm, mine was definitely a similar color to that when he was younger but now he seems to be losing his stripes and getting more reds and blues. Awesome fish btw.

Huh, i've gotten Vieja a few times now but to me he looks more like an uglier red terror. What about the head shape says vieja to you? I'm not super familiar with them.

Veija mixed with amphilophus species is what makes up the old school Kamfas. Color is correct for it too. And they typically have that same style / shape of head as well. I'll see if I can find a pic of a similar one

Hard to say.. did that friend give you any information on the fish and where he purchased it from? Background purposes

I've just been informed that he's likely from a Petsmart. So probably someone's unwanted fry. When I recieved him he was a tiny little 2 inch grey fish. Wish i knew more!

In that case it would be seen as a hybrid. Amphilopus mixture is possible.
